About ICAR Mosambi

ICAR Mosambi (Sweet Orange) Tree (Citrus sinensis)

The Official National Standard for High-Yield, Pure Sweet Juice

If your customers want the absolute peak standard of traditional Indian Mosambi, this elite selection certified by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the ultimate grower’s choice. Painstakingly developed and cloned to solve the common issues of older, wild-grown citrus trees, the ICAR Mosambi variety is highly celebrated across the nation for its superior tree vigor, uniform fruit size, and exceptional resistance to common citrus diseases like greening and granulation.

Naturally heavy-bearing and robustly built, this premium evergreen tree yields perfectly round, smooth-skinned sweet oranges that turn from a vibrant deep green to a warm, soft yellowish-green as they fill to the brim with hydrating juice.

Why the ICAR Mosambi Outclasses Standard Varieties:

  1. Bred for Maximum Juice Yield: Features a significantly higher juice recovery percentage than wild sweet limes, guaranteeing a dense, refreshing, high-volume squeeze every single time.
  2. Elite Disease & Stress Resistance: Carefully selected by agricultural scientists to stay highly resilient against citrus greening and extreme heat, making it the most low-maintenance Mosambi you can plant.
  3. Smooth, Non-Bitter Sweetness: Naturally low in acidity and incredibly rich in natural sugars (high Brix rating), producing a crisp, cooling flavor that feels wonderfully gentle on the stomach.
  4. Dependable Year-Round Growth: Boasts an incredibly dense, compact canopy of glossy dark green leaves and clusters of star-shaped, beautifully aromatic white blossoms that naturally spruce up any balcony or backyard.

Growing in the Ground

  1. Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day.
  2. Use well-draining, fertile soil with good organic matter.
  3. Water deeply 1–2 times per week, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. Increase watering during hot, dry weather.
  4. Apply a balanced citrus fertilizer during spring and summer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  5. Prune lightly to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to maintain good air circulation.
  6. Protect young trees from frost and extreme cold.

Growing in a Pot

  1. Choose a container with adequate drainage holes and use a high-quality, well-draining citrus potting mix.
  2. Place the pot in a bright, sunny location where the plant receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  3. Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the potting mix feels dry. Avoid over watering or allowing the pot to sit in standing water.
  4. Feed with a citrus-specific fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the active growing season.
  5. Re-pot every 2–3 years or when the roots become crowded.
  6. In regions with cold winters, move the container to a sheltered, frost-free location when temperatures approach freezing.

General Care Tips

  1. Ensure good air circulation around the plant.
  2. Mulch around in-ground trees to help retain soil moisture, keeping mulch a few centimeters away from the trunk.
  3. Regularly inspect for common citrus pests such as aphids, scale insects, mealybugs, and spider mites, and treat promptly if needed.
  4. Remove any dead or diseased branches to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
