About Bari-I
BARI I Sweet Malta Tree (Citrus sinensis 'BARI I')
The Sweet, Subtropical Juicing Sensation Perfect for Terraces & Gardens
If you want to offer your customers a citrus plant that is wildly popular, incredibly sweet, and perfectly adapted to subtropical climates, the BARI I Sweet Malta is an absolute star. Developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), this premium selection has taken South Asia by storm for its phenomenal juice quality, fast-growing nature, and heavy, reliable yields.
Floral Kashmir
The BARI 1 Malta produces beautiful, round, medium-to-large fruits that transition from a rich green to a vibrant, warm orange hue as they ripen in the winter. Packed with a smooth, aromatic flavor that perfectly balances high sugars with low acidity, it is an essential pick for any urban gardener or backyard orchard enthusiast.
Why the BARI I Sweet Malta is a Must-Have:
- Exceptional Subtropical Performance: Specially bred to thrive in hot, humid, and subtropical environments where traditional western orange varieties might struggle.
- Floral Kashmir
- Aromatic & Intensely Sweet Juice: Yields an abundant amount of tender, low-acid juice that is naturally rich, golden, and packed with a refreshing sweet-tangy finish.
- Rapid Fruit Production: Because our plants are grafted, they skip the long juvenile stage, frequently blooming and bearing delicious fruit within just 1 to 2 years of planting.
- The Ultimate Urban Patio Tree: Naturally forms a compact, highly manageable, bushy evergreen canopy with fragrant white blossoms, making it a dream candidate for terrace and balcony containers.

Growing in the Ground
- Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day.
- Use well-draining, fertile soil with good organic matter.
- Water deeply 1–2 times per week, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. Increase watering during hot, dry weather.
- Apply a balanced citrus fertilizer during spring and summer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Prune lightly to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to maintain good air circulation.
- Protect young trees from frost and extreme cold.
Growing in a Pot
- Choose a container with adequate drainage holes and use a high-quality, well-draining citrus potting mix.
- Place the pot in a bright, sunny location where the plant receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the potting mix feels dry. Avoid over watering or allowing the pot to sit in standing water.
- Feed with a citrus-specific fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the active growing season.
- Re-pot every 2–3 years or when the roots become crowded.
- In regions with cold winters, move the container to a sheltered, frost-free location when temperatures approach freezing.
General Care Tips
- Ensure good air circulation around the plant.
- Mulch around in-ground trees to help retain soil moisture, keeping mulch a few centimeters away from the trunk.
- Regularly inspect for common citrus pests such as aphids, scale insects, mealybugs, and spider mites, and treat promptly if needed.
- Remove any dead or diseased branches to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
