About Valencia Rhode Red
Valencia Rhode Red Orange
Valencia Rhode Red is a premium late-season selection of the classic Valencia orange, first discovered as a natural bud mutation by Paul Rhode in Florida in 1955. It is renowned for its deeper orange-red rind, richly colored flesh, and darker juice, while retaining the excellent flavor, productivity, and maturity period of traditional Valencia oranges.
The fruit is medium to large, with a smooth peel and exceptionally juicy flesh that offers a perfect balance of sweetness and refreshing acidity. Its intense internal color makes it especially popular for fresh juice, where it produces a naturally darker, more attractive juice than standard Valencia varieties. Despite its enhanced color, Valencia Rhode Red maintains the characteristic late-season harvest, excellent fruit-holding ability, and vigorous growth habit that have made Valencia oranges one of the world's most trusted citrus cultivars.

Growing in the Ground
- Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day.
- Use well-draining, fertile soil with good organic matter.
- Water deeply 1–2 times per week, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. Increase watering during hot, dry weather.
- Apply a balanced citrus fertilizer during spring and summer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Prune lightly to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to maintain good air circulation.
- Protect young trees from frost and extreme cold.
Growing in a Pot
- Choose a container with adequate drainage holes and use a high-quality, well-draining citrus potting mix.
- Place the pot in a bright, sunny location where the plant receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the potting mix feels dry. Avoid over watering or allowing the pot to sit in standing water.
- Feed with a citrus-specific fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the active growing season.
- Re-pot every 2–3 years or when the roots become crowded.
- In regions with cold winters, move the container to a sheltered, frost-free location when temperatures approach freezing.
General Care Tips
- Ensure good air circulation around the plant.
- Mulch around in-ground trees to help retain soil moisture, keeping mulch a few centimeters away from the trunk.
- Regularly inspect for common citrus pests such as aphids, scale insects, mealybugs, and spider mites, and treat promptly if needed.
- Remove any dead or diseased branches to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
