About Trovita
Trovita Sweet Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis 'Trovita')
The Heat-Loving, Ultra-Juicy Desert & Coastal Champion
If you live in a region with scorching summer heat or unpredictable coastal weather, standard orange trees can sometimes struggle—but not the Trovita Sweet Orange. Believed to be a prize seedling of the famous Washington Navel, the Trovita gives you all that classic, rich navel flavor but without the physical navel at the bottom.
Remarkably resilient, highly productive, and adaptable, this outstanding evergreen variety thrives in intense desert heat where other citrus falter, making it a favorite across the Southwest and beyond.
Why the Trovita Sweet Orange is an Absolute Favorite:
- Exceptional Heat & Radiant Tolerance: Unlike many citrus varieties that get stressed by intense sun, the Trovita actually becomes more productive and sweeter under hot desert conditions.
- Thin Rind & Easy to Peel: Features a smooth, perfumed skin that unpeels effortlessly, making it a perfect, low-mess snack straight from the tree.
- Excellent Dual-Purpose Fruit: Packed with an abundance of clear, exceptionally sweet juice, it is just as fantastic for morning pressing as it is for fresh hand-eating.
- Thrives Indoors or Out: Naturally well-suited for container life. If you live in a colder climate, you can easily grow it in a large pot on a sunny patio and bring it indoors for the winter.

Growing in the Ground
- Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day.
- Use well-draining, fertile soil with good organic matter.
- Water deeply 1–2 times per week, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. Increase watering during hot, dry weather.
- Apply a balanced citrus fertilizer during spring and summer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Prune lightly to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to maintain good air circulation.
- Protect young trees from frost and extreme cold.
Growing in a Pot
- Choose a container with adequate drainage holes and use a high-quality, well-draining citrus potting mix.
- Place the pot in a bright, sunny location where the plant receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Water when the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the potting mix feels dry. Avoid over watering or allowing the pot to sit in standing water.
- Feed with a citrus-specific fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the active growing season.
- Re-pot every 2–3 years or when the roots become crowded.
- In regions with cold winters, move the container to a sheltered, frost-free location when temperatures approach freezing.
General Care Tips
- Ensure good air circulation around the plant.
- Mulch around in-ground trees to help retain soil moisture, keeping mulch a few centimeters away from the trunk.
- Regularly inspect for common citrus pests such as aphids, scale insects, mealybugs, and spider mites, and treat promptly if needed.
- Remove any dead or diseased branches to encourage healthy growth and fruit production.
